A healthy diet is very important for your bird and variety in their diet is essential. These recipes offer a variety of nutritious and tasty ingredients that your bird will be sure to love. Yes, people food is acceptable!! Don’t be afraid to experiment, you will be surprised at what your bird will enjoy eating.
CAUTION: There are some human foods that can be harmful or even fatal to your bird.
Peanut Butter Cheerio Bites
2 cups Cheerios 1 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins 1/2 cup honey 2 T Coconut oil 1/2 cup non-fat dried milk powder
2/3 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
Instructions
Combine peanut butter, butter, and honey in large bowl Stir in milk powder, cranberries/rasins. Add cereal stirring until all pieces are evenly coated. At this point you can either make small balls and roll in the coconut, place on a parchment lined cookie sheet or press into a pan top with coconut and press down to adhere. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting. Keep any leftovers stored in the fridge or can be kept in freezer until ready to use. Parrots love these, and so do I!!
Orange, Cranberry and Nut mix
1 Orange (peeled and sectioned) 1/2 C. Cranberries (fresh) 1/4 C. Assorted Nuts (shelled), pecans, walnuts, almonds, pistachios, and macadamia all make great choices.
In food processor “coarse” chop Cranberries, Oranges and Nuts. Spread out on cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen, break up and put in freezer bag. Keep in freezer until ready to use.
Veggie Bread
1 pkg Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix 1/2 c peanut butter large bunch of kale- chopped 1 cup mixed veggies, course chopped. (I use frozen).
Prepare corn muffin mix according to directions on box, using V-8 or fruit juice instead of milk and throw in the egg shells. Chop a bunch of kale and add some mixed veggies and peanut butter. Cook according to the directions on the box.Cut into serving size pieces. Freeze, can keep in freezer until ready to use.
Sweet Potato Balls
1 large sweet potato, cooked ½ c. raisins 1 mashed banana 1 c. mixed vegetables- course chop (I use frozen). 1 c. diced apples 1 ½ c. uncooked oatmeal, corn flakes, or granola cereal.
Mix all together and add just enough fruit or vegetable juice to make it form into “small balls”. Place the balls on a cookie sheet and freeze, can keep in freezer until ready to use.
Sweet Potato Muffins
1 box Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix 2 eggs, plus the shell 1/8 cup fruit juice 1 tbs. coconut oil 1/2 cup apple sauce 1 cup cooked sweet potatoes 1 cup squash or mixed veggies (I use frozen) course chopped. You can use all sweet potatoes.
Preheat oven. Mix first 4 ingredients together in large bowl, Add the next 3 ingredients and mix well. Pour into mini muffin pans pans or use a cake pan and cut into squares. Bake according to muffin mix directions. Freeze, can keep in freezer until ready to use.
